BofA executive: Small business is on the comeback
Prizmo. (Photo: Prizmo) Prizmo: For on-the-go scanning, consider Prizmo ($9.99), an app that serves as a sort of portable scanner for your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Mac. To “scan” a document or business card which essentially means it’s taking a photo with the device’s camera hold your hand still above the paper, and tap the button. Not only will it digitize the information but OCR (optical character recognition) means it’ll make the text editable and searchable with very good accuracy (though not perfect). Prizmo can detect words in more than 40 languages (10 are built-in). With optional in-app purchases, you can have the app speak the text to you in one of many languages.

But what is more likely to happen at some point is I am going to get into a business with one or both of my children. My son is two years out of college and doing very well in a small business here in Miami. It’s a company that’s in this growing field called e-discovery, kind of navigating the legalese in this day and age of social media. And my daughter, an aspiring small business owner, is in her first year at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley. She wants to be an executive chef and own her own restaurant someday.
